vz.lt: Scissors in the Media: Between Print and the Internet

Although people began talking about the death of print more than a decade ago, as soon as the internet picked up speed and sharing news became very easy, it seemed that only publications with entertainment or analytical content could survive. And over the past 15 years, print publications have declined, but they are not yet ready to disappear completely.
These are the conclusions drawn by the media monitoring and analysis company Mediaskopas, which analyzed the communication of three of the most active business sectors — banks, mobile operators, and non-life insurance companies — in 2003–2017 across the main internet, radio, television, and press channels.
An analysis of 15 years of business information shows a particularly clear shift in two media categories: online portals and the national press.
“In the emerging ‘scissors,’ the turning point came in 2009, and by 2012 the volume of information shared online had, in percentage terms, surpassed the amount published in national outlets 10 years earlier. In recent years, there have been no major changes in traditional media, although the increased flow of business information through television and radio channels stands out somewhat,” says Akvilė Katilienė, Head of the Analysis Department at Mediaskopas.
